CONTRACTOR SAFETY GOALS FOR 2006

SAfetyThe following statements of safety goals were provided by the contractors and consultants in the fall of 2006

  1. Make workers aware of, and continually remind them of hazards and potential hazardous conditions in the work area.
  2. To operate in a safe and responsible manner such that no personal injuries are incurred and to ensure that all Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) are understood and followed by all employees.
  3. The Contractor is proud of its past safety performance; there is always room for improvement. We feel that the most important key to improving safety performance is better communication with the company’s employees, sub-contractors and fellow contractors. With the increase of accidents and fatalities in the industry much effort has been made to collect information and data that will help contractors conduct their operations in a safer manner. This information will be made available to all individuals working with the Contractor so that they may better understand the risks and hazards associated with their particular job.
  4. Our goal is to continue to have a safe work environment with safety as our top priority.
  5. This year's goal for the Contractor is to be a safe and proactive company that looks at all risks and hazards from supervision to foresee dangers and to work away from them. We want to do our best to avoid all accidents, and investigate all that do happen with the utmost effort to come to the root cause and find the actions necessary to prevent them from happening again within our company and any others. We have set out a new system including a safety officer to over look these goals and keep us on track with them.
  6. The company is committed to providing and maintaining a safe work place. We will encourage positive attitudes towards safety and promote safe working conditions, which in turn reduce accidents and injuries. The company is committed to achieving high levels of quality production without accidents, injuries, disability to its employees or subcontractors, or harm to the general public. Our corporate intent is to meet the requirements of the WCB.
  7. The company will encourage positive attitudes towards safety and promote safe working conditions, which in turn reduce accidents and injuries. The company will not ask any one to place themselves at physical risk when at work.
  8. The management of the Contractor is committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions, and to promoting positive attitudes toward safety and health within the organization. Management, supervisors and employees will strive to work together to ensure the Company can and will be certified under the new Health and Safety Accord of the BC Forest Industry.
  9. The Company is committed to providing and maintaining a safe work place. We will encourage positive attitudes toward safety and promote safe working conditions, which in turn reduce accidents and injuries. The Company understands its rights and the rights of its employees and sub-contractors to refuse unsafe work. The Company will not ask any one to place themselves at physical risk when at work.

  11. To continue to improve on the previous year’s safety programs and reduce the risk of personal injury. To maintain or exceed legislated and regulated requirements for safety. Creating a safe work environment with suitable equipment to achieve this goal. To ensure that all employees are well trained and have the necessary equipment and tools to ensure a safe working environment. To continue to raise our workers awareness to prevent accidents. To continue to have a positive working relationship with the Company, BCTS and other regulatory agencies such as WCB. To continue to upgrade or improve our Safe Work Procedures.
  12. To improve over last years safety and to reduce the risks of personal injury. To maintain or exceed regulated safety requirements. To ensure all employees are trained and have all the necessary tools to ensure a safe working environment. The Contractor promotes a safe and professional work attitude, practices and conditions in timber harvesting and transportation.
  13. To regularly communicate safety issues and information and implement necessary changes. This will be communicated at a minimum on a monthly basis during regular safety meetings or sooner if necessary.
  14. Incorporate safety into every aspect of the work environment. From servicing, operating equipment, performing repairs, communicating on the radio, PPE and work attitude.
  15. To continue to improve on the safe work aspects of each job position within our company, and to constantly build on the safety record of the past year.
  16. Contractor is committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees and others required to provide services at our work sites. To take all reasonable care to prevent work related accidents and to ensure all employees arrive safety home at the end of each work day.
  17. To continue to be accident free both during maintenance activities and commuting. Keep employees abreast of safety issues. Commitment to keep all transportation and equipment in safe repair.
  18. To operate in a safe and responsible manner such that no personal injuries are incurred and to ensure that all Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) are understood and followed by all employees.
  19. Contractors goal to improve safety for our operation is to review and update all policies and procedures related to safety and ensure that WCB requirements are met.
  20. Safe production is a goal of all our activities for the Contractor. Everyone has a personal commitment to work safety, and to ensure the safety of others. Employees will be given the training, equipment and support from all levels of management to create and sustain an accident free environment. Management recognizes their responsibility to promote awareness for safe production by setting a high standard of commitment to the program. A positive attitude to our safety policy is necessary by all employees to achieve an injury free workplace.
  21. Contractor is committed to providing and maintaining a safe work environment for all employees and others that provide services for the Contractor. The Contractors Safety Program objectives include periodic review and continual improvement of the Safety Plan. Meeting or exceeding legislated safety requirements. Risk and Hazard management. Safety training, education and certification. Availability of safe equipment. Regular safety communication. Incident and near miss reporting and investigations.

 

The following are the general overview woodlands safety goals to improve our safety performance.

  • The safety committee will review the safety program results on a quarterly basis to determine effectiveness in achievement of the goals.
  • To continue to improve on the previous year’s safety programs and reduce the risk of personal injury.
  • To maintain or exceed legislated and regulated requirements for safety.
  • To ensure that the safety committee and all employees are well trained and have the necessary tools to ensure a safe working environment.
  • To ensure that the safety committee is effective in raising safety awareness and implementing prevention programs.
  • To continue to have a positive working relationship with regulatory agencies such as WCB, Fire Marshall and Interior Health Inspectors.
  • To continue to upgrade or improve the Woodlands Safe Work Procedures.
